I’m 52 and I’ve Got Nothing to Lose

Let me tell you something, folks. I’m Sarah, and I’ve been in this health and wellness game for what feels like forever. I’ve seen trends come and go, and honestly, most of it’s a load of crap. But I’ve also found some gems. And today, I’m gonna share them with you.

I started writing about health back in the ’90s. Yeah, I know, I’m basically a dinosaur. But back then, we didn’t have all this fancy tech. We just had common sense and a good old-fashioned library card. And honestly, that was enough.

But now? Now we’ve got influencers telling us to put butter in our coffee and that’s gonna make us skinny. No. Just no.

My Wake-Up Call

About three months ago, I was at a conference in Austin. I was talking to this guy, let’s call him Marcus, and he was telling me about how he’d lost 20 pounds by eating nothing but avocados for a month. I looked at him and said, “Marcus, that’s not healthy. That’s just stupid.”

He looked at me like I’d just kicked his puppy. But I didn’t care. Someone had to tell him the truth. And that’s what I’m gonna do here. I’m gonna tell you the truth, even if it’s not pretty.

I’ve tried alot of things. I’ve done the juicing, the cleansing, the intermittent fasting. And you know what? Most of it’s a waste of time. But there are a few things that actually work. And I’m gonna share them with you.

Eat Real Food, People

First things first. You gotta eat real food. I’m not talking about those sad little packets of “food” that come in a box. I’m talking about actual, real, honest-to-goodness food. You know, the stuff that comes from the ground or runs around on a farm.

I remember when I was in college, my roommate, let’s call her Lisa, she lived on ramen noodles. I’d come home from class and she’d be sitting there, slurping up that nasty stuff. I’d say, “Lisa, that’s not food. That’s a crime against humanity.” And she’d just laugh. But you know what? She’s 50 now and she’s got the health issues to show for it.

So do yourself a favor. Eat real food. Cook it yourself if you can. And for the love of all that’s holy, stop eating out of a bag.

Exercise, But Not Too Much

Now, I’m not gonna tell you to join a gym or anything crazy like that. But you gotta move. Your body needs it. I’ve seen too many people become complete couch potatoes and then wonder why they feel like crap.

I’ve got a friend, let’s call him Dave, who’s a personal trainer. He’s always telling me about the latest fitness craze. And I’m like, “Dave, just tell people to walk. Just walk. It’s free and it’s easy.” But he won’t. He’s too busy selling his fancy workout programs.

So walk. Or run. Or dance. Or whatever. Just move. And don’t overdo it. You don’t need to run a marathon to be healthy. Just move. That’s all.

Sleep is Your Superpower

I can’t stress this enough. Sleep is everything. I’ve seen people sacrifice sleep for work, for socializing, for whatever. And it’s a mistake. A big one.

I remember last Tuesday, I was up until 2am working on an article. I was tired, but I just had to finish it. And the next day, I was a mess. I couldn’t focus, I was irritable, and I felt like I’d been hit by a truck. And that’s just one night. Imagine doing that every night.

So sleep. A lot. And don’t feel guilty about it. It’s not lazy. It’s necessary.

A Quick Digression: Why I Hate the Word “Wellness”

Okay, I gotta rant here. I hate the word “wellness.” It’s overused and it’s meaningless. It’s become a buzzword for people to sell stuff. And I’m not having it. So I’m gonna use it as little as possible. Because it’s stupid.

Anyway, back to the point.

Stress Less, Laugh More

Stress is a killer. I’ve seen it. I’ve lived it. And I’m here to tell you, it’s not worth it. So find ways to stress less. Meditate, do yoga, whatever. Just find what works for you and do it.

And laugh. Laugh alot. Laugh at stupid jokes, laugh at yourself, just laugh. It’s good for you. I promise.

I remember when I was going through a tough time a few years back. My friend, let’s call her Emma, she’d call me every day just to tell me a joke. And it worked. It made me laugh, and it made me feel better. So find your Emma. Or be your own Emma. Just laugh.

And Now, a Word on Supplements

Look, I’m not gonna tell you to never take a supplement. But I am gonna tell you to be smart about it. You don’t need to take a pill for everything. And you definitely don’t need to spend a fortune on them.

I’ve seen people with entire shelves full of supplements. And they’re still sick. So maybe, just maybe, it’s not the supplements. Maybe it’s the food. Or the sleep. Or the stress. Or the lack of movement.

So think about that before you go out and buy every supplement under the sun. And if you’re gonna start an online business selling supplements, for god’s sake, check out this e-ticaret işletme kurma rehber first. It’s probably better than whatever advice you’re getting from your “guru.”

The Bottom Line

So there you have it. My honest, no-holds-barred take on health and wellness. Eat real food, move, sleep, stress less, laugh more. And for the love of all that’s holy, stop buying into every trend that comes along.

And remember, I’m not perfect. I make mistakes. I eat junk food. I stay up too late. I stress out. But I’m working on it. And you should be too.

So that’s it. My truth. Take it or leave it. But don’t say I didn’t warn you.
